Joanne began her nonprofit career in 1999 in the development department of FareStart, a nonprofit in Seattle dedicated to training homeless individuals in the food services industry. Her storytelling played a crucial role in attracting essential volunteers and gaining support for this then-struggling nonprofit. She continued to tell impactful stories for organizations like Noel House, Rose of Lima, Rosehedge AIDS Housing and Healthcare, and many others, raising over $10,000,000 in the past 20 years.

Her expertise extends to speaker coaching, with a resume that includes coaching for numerous TEDx events, Moth presentations, and public speaking engagements for nonprofit leaders since 1999. The TEDx talks she has coached have collectively reached millions of viewers worldwide.
